In the Mood for a Mexican Meal

LA Live is the newest addition to Downtown Los Angeles.  Located in prime real estate next to the Staples Center and the Nokia Theatre, it is THE place for Downtown adventures.

Ok, so now that you know where I am, let me tell you what I ATE!!

I have been craving Mexican food for a while so when Rosa Mexicana, a restaurant at the LA Live Campus I have never been to, was suggested, I immediately said yes!  Inside, the colors in the decorations were bright and cheerful and the menu made you want to study it.  After much deliberation, we decided on Guacamole en Molcajete, the house speciality that is made to your spicy specifications at your table (we chose to have it prepared “medium spicy”) and the Suizas (chicken) Enchiladas.  No margaritas for us today though, we will have to try them another time, especially since their list of tequilas is humongous! But back to the food.

So! A young man came to our table with a cart full of fresh avocados, chopped tomatoes, onions, salt, cilantro, and jalapenos and proceeded to mash everything together to make the most incredible guacamole I have ever had!!!! Oh, it was exquisite and we gobbled every pristine morsel right up with the freshly made warm tortillas and tortilla chips!  The guacamole also came with two salsas: pasilla de Oaxaca (a very smokey salsa) and salsa de tomatillo y habanero (a spicy, green salsa), soooooooo very good! Next, the suizas enchiladas  … and oh my, oh my, on my! Two soft tortillas filled with shredded chicken and topped with this astounding tomatillo sauce that was so creamy and vibrantly lime.  And then there was this cheese all melted on top of it, chihuahua cheese.  (*Random thought - who can guess the title of the somewhat recent independent movie from this line, “Chihuahua … arf!” It’s a very obscure reference FYI ;-D *) The enchiladas were served with refried, pureed black beans and the spicy with a hint of lime house rice.  Fabulous!!  The food was just exceptional and I would love to have some more!**

**Ok … I HATE to say anything, but unfortunately, I have one slightly negative thing to say about my experience at Rosa Mexicano.  While the food was wonderful and as I said above, I would have lots more, the service was, well, lacking. But, to end on a good note, I have to say, go try Rosa Mexicano and enjoy the food and chance the service.  It’s worth it!!!!!
